Scott Copeland’s Bladerunner Gun

This is a resin kit of Rick Deckard’s pistol from Blade Runner, I have no idea who the original maker was. I bought this on the e-place already built with a Space 1999 Comlink and Laser pistol. They were all really amateurish builds that I suspect were done by a kid, no attempt was made to remove the very heavy seam and mold lines, and it was painted with a brush with serious runs.

Rather than try to strip it, I just broke out some sanding sticks and called the original paint primer. I hit all the runs and seams with coarse sticks, and kept working on it over several nights till I had worked my way down to “very fine” and everything was smooth. I left some of the wear to the grips and chips on the butt for character.

I masked the urethane grips and the parts I didn’t want gunmetal colored with painters tape. I thinned some Testor’s Metallic Black and airbrushed on three thin coats. I was really pleased with the finish, it looks pretty close to the gun in the movie to me! I removed the tape, remasked the black metal areas and grips again, then shot the bare metal parts with thinned MM “steel”. Again I was pleased with the finish. After it dried for two days I shot the steel parts with dullcoat. I didn’t seal the barrel or receiver, I just polished the black metallic paint with a soft cloth to keep the metallic look.

Pretty simple project, but I was pleased with the results, and the price was right. I’ll probably resell it to but more kits!
