Retro Rockets #8 – April 2026

Time flies! The last Retro Rockets was in January. Since then, things were quiet, and then everything happened all at once, and then things slowed down. Funny how that works. So let’s catch up on the latest in Sci-Fi and Monster models!

The big news from March is that Round 2 bought Lionel Trains. At least that is what was announced. How that affects the model side of things is still undetermined, but I have been told that it should not impact operations for Round 2 and the plastic kit line. I will post more info if it matters. I posted about this here

In March, at Toy Fair in New York, Round 2 previewed their product lines through the summer and a bit into the second half of 2026. The most exciting news was an all new “Studio Series” TIE Interceptpr, in 1:32 scale. There will be a reissue of the Classice TOS Enterprise, plus light kits for the TOS Enterprise and SNW Enterprise. Several other kits announced 18 months ago are finally coming out. Bandia has a few new Star Wars kits coming, but we don’t know their availability. There should be a repackaging of the pocket size X-Wing, TIE Fighters, and Darth Vader’s TIE Figher as a “Trench Run” set. Plus repackaging of the Mandalorian and Grogu figures in 1:12 scale for the new movie. I’ll post more info when I have it.

Certainly the most exciting hobby related event was the Artemis launch to the Moon. We have the Airfix kit available and have actually restocked it multiple times. The excitement brings me back to the days of Apollo, which influenced so many of us 50 years ago. We have also restocked the 1:144 Saturn V, which is considered to be the most accurate Saturn V, along with the 1:144 scale Space Shuttle kits

Switching over to the Monster side of the hobby, we have the first batch of Monster Scenes kits. These are currently produced by Dencomm and distributed by Atlantis. They were originally produce in 1971 by Aurora and reissued by Moebius in 2009. Here are the first 4 kits:

Atomicmutant Arts has produced some new 3D printed figures available through CultTVman. These are designed by Michael Berglund. Two new kits are Tor from Plan 9 from Outer Space which is in scale with all the classic Aurora monster kits. The second is Christine, from the Phantom of the Opera. This comes with a replacement head for the Aurora kit. Christine is designed to compliment the Aurora kit and bring the classic movie to your model shelf.

Graveyard Scenes return!

We are working to bring back Graveyard Scenes and the first few bases are available again.    The first three are just bases and you have to supply the figure.   These were designed by Rick Evans about 15 years ago and we continued to expand the line of kits.  We have the Creepy Castle Starter Set available again.   This is a set of 3 wall panels: standard wall, door, and window unit, plus two floor panels.   The Creepy Castle Expansion set has 2 more wall sections and 4 floor panels.
