Jason VanderMolen’s Voyager
The Star Trek Voyager is the Monogram 20″ kit. This was the very first Star Trek model that I built and the first model I put lights in. Almost all of this model is lighted with lightsheet. When I called the rep I think he thought I was crazy to want to light all the windows and engines with lightsheet. So I ordered the biggest drive module he had, two blue sheets for the engines, and three 5.5″ x 3″. I took the three big pieces and rolled them around a marker to simulate a tube. The impulse engines and ram scoops are just some Christmas light bulbs. The deflector dish was the hardest to light up. I carved the plastic out totally and took some sprue strings, and glued each one individually.
This was before they made the clear resin parts (this model was finished in 1996}. I painted the model in a very basic grey and masked off the darker panels. I noticed from pictures a few details around phaser banks, etc so I drew them on with pen and pencil. The lifeboats were printed on a sticker, then added to the model. This model is in no way the best I’ve done, but it was a good starter and inspiration to do better and more models like it.
