Wonderfest News! Moebius and Round 2
Wonderfest has lived up to its incredible reputation as the best model show in the US for fantastic modelers. The dealers room appears to be busier than it has been in a while, and CultTVman sales were up significantly from last year. People have been buying a little bit of everything.
The model contest did not quite break any records, but there are almost 600 entries this year. I saw plenty of amazing kits.
Sci-Fi University was head on Friday with about 25 participants. Attendees were able to build an Iron Man kit, incorporating photoetch from Cult of Personality, lighting from Paragrafix, paint masks from Aztek Dummy, and resin parts from Federation Models. It was a blast for everyone.
As part of the Friday night meet and greet party, CultTVman sponsored a Show Room featuring many of the products available through CultTVman. We had a full display of the Graveyard Scenes kits, the Creep Castle Kits, Aztek Dummy products, models from Brad Hair Productions, Paragrafix lights and kits and a selection of upcoming kits from Moebius Models.
Round 2 had a really cool build up of the upcoming 1:350 Enterprise, complete with lights and rotating nacelle fans. Looks great. They announced several upcoming kits for 2012 and 2013. Release dates are not definite, but look for a new Wolverine figure kit. For Star Trek, there will be new 1:2500 set with a Refit Enterprise, KTinga and Reliant. Look for a Dirty Donny monster figure kit. There will be a Forbidden Planet Robby variation based on the movie poster, which reworks the original Robby kit and adds a female figure. There will be a new 1:144 C57D which will be about 12 inches. Round 2 is also doing an HO scale Graceland kit, officially licensed by the Elvis estate for 2013. Also in 2013 will be a Wizard of Oz kit with the Wicked Witch and Flying Monkey. They have a DC license and intend to do an Superman kit, as well as a Batman kit. They will do a fan poll to choose another new kit, choosing among a 1:1000 Reliant, 1:1000 Ktinga, 1:2500 Akira, 1:32 Galileo or 1:72 Iron Giant.
Moebius also announced a range of new kits. There will be new 1:8 scale Munsters figure kits of Herman and Grandpa Munster, sculpted by Jeff Yagher. Moebius will also be reissuing 2 versions of the Forgotten Prisoner, one in the original Aurora long box with the Aurora logo and the Famous Monsters logo.
The other will be a glow version. There will be a larger resin base for the Bride of Frankenstein kit. CultTVman is also pretty excited about the upcoming Galactica model kits, based on the original Battlestar Galactica TV show. There will be 1:32 scale Vipers and Cylon Raiders, along with an all new Battlestar Galactica kit from the original TV series. There is an all new larger scale Bat Pod with a Catwoman figure. There will be an HO scale Mel’s Drive In, as featured in American Graffiti. Mars Attacks is still in the works. The upcoming kits of the Munsters House, Forgotten Prisoner, Iron Man War Machine, Cylon Centurion, were also on display.
Pegasus was also at the show, promoting their upcoming and current kits. Atlantis/Megahobby was also at the show promoting Blackbeard. They did not have any new announcements, but it was great to have them at the show.
CultTVman’s sponsored guest was Mat Irvine, a veteran of the BBC VFX department. Mat gave presentations on K-9 and Doctor Who, and he spoke at the Sci-Fi U event. Mat brought with him parts of K-9 to show, including the tail, ears, and collar. Mat also signed copies of his new book BBC VFX, as well as his other books and photos at the CultTVman table. I want to thank Mat for joining us this year at Wonderfest. It’s been a lot of fun.
