Tom Hering’s Magnus, Robot Fighter, 4000 A.D.
This is “Magnus, Robot Fighter, 4000 A.D.” as he originally appeared in Gold Key comic books of the 1960s. He’s a conversion of the MPC reissue of Aurora’s Superman. I changed his hair and costume by sanding away most features, modeling new features with two-part epoxy putty, and detailing with small pieces of sheet styrene. The robot is scratchbuilt using parts from my junk box, heavy wire, large and small plastic beads, sheet styrene, and reflective plastic jewels. The custom base is sheet styrene, plus some more parts from my junk box. Custom decals include the title plaque on the base, the “M” on Magnus’ belt buckle, and the robot’s ID numbers and head vents. The paint job is hand-brushed Testors enamels, stone finish from a spray can, and multiple coats of Future – to give the model a retro, glossy look.
