Sylvain Rivest’s Giant Mantis

srivestdiorama01

This time it’s the Praying Mantis from AMT.  I used it in a very different setting than the original kit (I just can’t resist messing around with a kit) This one is set on Mars a few centuries from now ( you have to have imagination ) after ”terra forming ” .

The scale at which I reset the mantis in is 1/35 (very familiar to military modeling).  The vehicle is a repurposed Daimler scout car from WWII, reworked with the help of a good size spare parts box . The figurines are WWII british tank crew winter suits and the heads are from Hornet.

The whole scenery was made from styrofoam insulation covered with sculptamold.   The ground work is again sculptamold covered with sand and small pebbles, all spray painted with enamels and weathered with oils.  By the way the vehicle goes by the acronym E.T.L.D.S. , or “Extra Terrestrial Lifeform Detection System.”  The crews referred to it as the ”Extra Terrestrial Lunch Delivery Service,”  and there the scene is set .
