Steven Vasko’s Discovery Astronaut

This is the Lunar Models “2001 Discovery Astronaut with Monolith” kit, which I obtained through Monsters In Motion. Except for it’s varnished wooden lower base, this kit is built entirely “out of the box”. By far the hardest part of the build was rendering the Monolith as a flat, seamless, clean surface, which called for repeated efforts at filling, sanding, priming, and painting before a result was accomplished that pleased me. The figure came together without any surprises, though the decals were rather tough to work with, calling for remedial work with enamel paint and a fine-line paintbrush. The resin hoses on the suit were bent and shaped into their current positions with the help of a hairdryer.
