Steven Vasko’s Alpha 7 from Barbarella
This is the “Alpha 7”, Barbarella’s spaceship, from the Midnight Movie cult classic “Barbarella”. Yes, I know…it’s a PINK spaceship. It was the 1960’s…go figure. The kit is produced by Hunk of Junk Productions. The base is a generic Round 2 Dome Base, painted to represent Outer Space as depicted in the movie. I removed the solid-cast cockpit window area and hollowed out about a half-inch of material behind that and painted the resulting recess Testors Military Brown. I then took a Airfix 1/72 military figure and the large head of a pin and used them to kit bash a spacesuited figure of Barbarella, which I painted and glued into the recess. I then glazed the cockpit window area with two pieces of thin clear styrene. While I was at it, I added panel detail under the iris hatches with thin styrene and scratch-built a grilled structure seen in footage of the shooting miniature in the movie and attached it to a square recessed panel on the bottom of the hull. The kit is painted in Tamiya Acrylics.
