Steven Vasko’s 22-inch Eagle
This is the much-heralded 22″ “Space: 1999 Eagle Transporter” model kit by Round 2. Once I filled in and removed the various injection pin markings on the parts that made up the spine and service module cages, assembly was straight-forward. Any fit problems found in the kit’s construction were easily fixed with an X-acto knife and a small Testors file. The cockpit is lit by 2 frosted Yellow LEDs powered by three 3Vt coin batteries stacked like flashlight batteries and wound with electrical tape into a compact mass that is removable from the rest of the circuit with the use of a tiny quick-disconnect clip, and is controlled by a tiny push button encased in a small package that is fixed to the nosecone bottom. Access to the push button is granted via a hole cut the the recess for the bottom nosecone sensor and is disguised by the sensor part itself. Instead of using the kit-supplied screws to attach the Pod to the ship, I opted to use rare earth magnets secreted the the spine and under the Pod’s roof, placed on either end. I could’nt decide if I should build a Rescue Pod or a V.I.P. Pod so I took a cue from the special effects work on Space: 1999 and painted Rescue Pod stripes on one side of my Pod, and “old school” V.I.P. colors on the other side.
