Steven Vasko’s 2001 Satellites

This is a set of Orbital Weapons Platform Satellites seen in “2001:A Space Odyssey”, which are resin offerings currently put out by Admiralty Model Works. The four kits themselves contained very few surprises during assembly, but the paint call-out for “Montana Gold Diamond Grey” spray paint was curious, since that particular color is no longer manufactured. I settled for the “Krylon Fusion Satin White” spray paint, which is close enough a match for the “Anti-Flash White” military grade paint that Kubrick’s SFX team used to paint many of their miniatures. The bases are canvas panels glued onto wooden craft plaques, and they are painted and airbrushed to represent the backgrounds for the scenes in which the model subjects appear in. As a last touch, I used San-Serif White vinyl self-adhesive letters to label each satellite with their respective fictional nationalities.
