Steve Ozment’s 22-inch Enterprise

Here is my AMT “Cut-Away” version of the classic Enterprise. I’ve always heard that this version was a more “accurate” version than the 18 inch AMT model so I figured I’d give it a go.   I decided to  forego the “cut away” aspect of the ship – this involved cutting off the molded-in support stand and filling in the bottom of the lower hull to replicate the proper contour. The saucer section and side secondary hull also required quite a bit of putty and sanding (where the cutaaway sections join).  As other modelers have mentioned it is best to use the cut away sections in the assembly as they add extra support and gluing surface.
The base color is Tamiya Japanese Naval green (AS28) which is a bit dark and not entirely accurate to the show version ..but think it gives it a more “purposeful’ look to it. The panels lines are lightly scribed and additional lines, weathering and “rust ring” are done with pastel chalk or pencil. DLM decals finish off the build.

Overall I’m really happy with the build – it was definitely a test mule for learning how to do putty work and do detail work with pastel and pencil.
