SM Clark’s Classic Enterprise

Here’s a brief note about the TOS 1701 building process.

The only kit modifications were:

  • Of course, the first thing I did was to remove the grid lines, using various grits of sandpaper, down to 400 wet/dry.
  • Removed the bevel on those little vents at the aft end of the nacelles
  • Connected the turbo shaft elevator housing behind the bridge *to* the bridge with body putty
  • Seperated and attached individually nd those three squares around the bottom of the nacelle domes .
  • Part add-ons were made of stuff hanging around: the shuttle craft dome was made from the tip of an Exacto blade-cover sawn off and sanded, and the running lights (non-functioning) were from tiny beads I picked up in a Russian bead shop.
  • The decals are from Gino Dykstra’s excellent set for this and the 22″ version. I used the decal setting solution available from Micro Mark for perfect results.
  • Painting was also pretty straight ahead. I just eyeballed the primary hull color (which comes across pretty well in these scans) from various sources. Air brushed it on in several coats.
  • All detail work is done with paint by hand. Nacelle domes, globes at aft end of nacelles, windows (for patterns, I used Frisket templates cut with the various window configurations), and all nacelle detail. Also, the deflector dish and housing.

That’s about it. No working lights. Saving that for the 22″ with the kit from Don Mathys (drool).
