Shawn MacLeod’s 1:12 scale Batmobile
Here is one of the projects I completed recently, the 1/12 scale Orne Montgomery Batura Batmobile. This model was purchased online and was in really rough condition. I had to strip the car down as it had been previously built. The car was stripped of its old paint with oven cleaner and superclean. Once model of the old paint had peeled off, I disassembled the model as best I could without breaking too much.
The car was than sanded with 120 grit sand paper to get the rest of the paint off, and than was wet sanded with 400, 600, 800, 1000. 1200 grit sandpapers to get it as smooth as possible. The body was than primed with duplicolor sandable grey primer, and once dry it was wet sanded again with 1200 grit paper. This was than covered with duplicolor flat black paint, and was given 3 coats once the previous coats had dried. The car was than clear coated once the pin-striping had been painted, with testors model masters high gloss clearcoat. This was applied four times to the body until it was a deep rich glasslike finish.
The chassis used for this car was a 1:12 scale 57 chevy chassis and I also used the exhaust and tranny and engine from this model, as well as the wheels and tires. The chutes were made from faux suede material which I cut and wrapped around some Styrofoam blocks and glued in place. I than painted them in flat black, I used Swarovski crystals to simulate the lights around the compass. I made seatbelts for the interior from material and spare bat-hubs and included a diecast fire extinguisher. Anyhow, way too much to blather on about. I think it turned out really nice and I have another broken and beat up one I am going to try and restore later on.
