Roy Stanton’s Classic Flash Gordon

I just completed this great re-issue kit of Flash Gordon; I’ve been wanting to build one of these for YEARS, and didn’t hesitate to take advantage of the opportunity afforded by this re-pop of the original.

I  did do some customizing; the most significant change is the addition of a new base from Thunderboy Productions.  It really brings the whole piece together, and is a great representation of the scene in the box art.  As for the figure of Flash, I removed the molded in air hose detail, and added actual flexible clear strands.  Additional detailing was added to the air tanks (the connectors for the air hoses); other modifications include adding buttons to the shoulder straps on the suit, metal foil and buttons added to the collar of the bubble helmet, and the blaster pistol was given a new muzzle, along with detailing on the body of the weapon.

As the kit was nearing completion, and I started to get an idea of how it would look, I kept getting images in my head of how it would look under colored lighting.  The blue lit pic was perhaps THE image I wanted to capture, and really has the look (in my opinion) of classic 50’s/60’s Sci-Fi art.

The kit was great fun to build, and it is, for me, a highlight of my collection.
