Phillip Gore’s Classic AMT Enterprise
Another lost submission from 2007. Never posted to the site.
This is ERTL’s 18” U.S.S. Enterprise built from an issue that came out in 1983. I built the model in 1996. Listed below are the modifications and after market parts that were added to the kit.
Modifications:
- Sawed off the bridge/A-B Deck and removed 1/8” of the height
- Located new saucer navigation lights
- Added a new bridge dome from a 1/200 scale AMT Apollo capsule heat shield
- Filled the recesses on the lower saucer
- Cut down outer ring on the secondary hull front
- Scratch built new warp engine sink field generators
- Added a navigation light over the shuttle bay doors
After market parts:
- Deflector Dish with a scratch built spike
- Lower Sensor Array
- Decalex Decal Sheet
- Webb Games Decal Sheet
The base color I used was Gunze-Sangyo Light Gray (338). I know the actual model had more weathering and a flat finish, but I was so impressed with the semi-gloss finish on mine (after the decals were put on) that I left it that way. Many Enterprise experts will see there are some painting details I “missed”. Anyway, it turned out a very “clean build” and did well in competition, including a 1st Place Award in the Sci-Fi Category at the 1997 IPMS National Contest. Hopefully I will be able to build a better Enterprise with the ERTL 22” kit by referencing many of the excellent Enterprises on this site.
