John Narducci’s USS Defiant

I though Voyager was a hard build this model took me well over a year to build.  Just like with Voyager all of the windows were drilled out and epoxy filled and like the Voyager model all circuitry was built into the model. This model has 4 separate circuits; one is for the dimming of the navigation deflector, impulse engines and nacelles, the other is for the pulse cannons, another for the shuttle bay doors as they are opened warning lights flash and the shuttle bay light comes on, and the navigation lights. The entire model’s panel lines were hand carved, the deflector was built from scratch, the nacelles were made from epoxy, the rear nacelles were completely built from scratch as were the impulse engines to give them depth as seen on the original model, I used real copper on the front nacelles and rebuilt the main bridge and engineering as close to the original as possible. I fabricated my own shuttle bay doors to work with the circuit board so that they trigger the shuttle lighting and warning lights. The shuttle bay was purchased and then modified to accept lighting and I added a few touches by including scenery in the shuttle bay windows, none of which you can see with the pictures because I had a hard time photographing the shuttle bay. I followed the basic paint scheme as directed in the model kit and modified as I went, trying to follow the pictures I downloaded of the original as close as possible.
