Joe Brown’s Sulaco
From 1999
The 1st place award! About the Sulaco, it’s a stock Halycon kit that I lucked into, and has waited for over a year to be build & painted.
I removed the horrible mold seam lines everywhere I could, but they’re still here & there if you know where to look, especially on the forward anttena array. The only modification I made was to gently remove the raised panel lines on the forward upper hull; they looked… bad!. I sanded that area smooth, and painted the whole ship Light Sea Gray, masked about 12 of the lower hull panels, and then painted the whole ship using Medium Sea Gray. After removing the masking, it looked pretty good, but needed something else. By using a .005 craft pen with black ink to draw along the recessed panel lines, I got exactly the effect that I was looking for. Overall, great kit if you can find one!
