Jeff Pollizzotto’s USS Kepler

This model was built stock out of the box from the out of production SFSM resin and vac-form kit. Painting the model took up most of the hours spent on the model but I feel it worked out well. I wanted to try something different with this model. I wanted a subtle Aztek pattern and I tried a new technique (for me) by drawing the Aztek patterns using a number 2 pencil over the final primer coat. I then made up some thin templates out of clear plastic and used them to “draw” on the patterns on the saucer and hull. I filled in the smaller areas by hand around the engines and upper sensor platform. I then airbrushed the model using Tamiya acrylics. I had to use light coats to keep the paint transparent enough so that the Aztek patterns would show through.
