Dennis Hogan’s Chewbacca

Here, we have the original 1/4 scale vinyl figure kit of Chewbacca from Star Wars. The kit was produced by the SCREAMIN kit company out of Albany, N.Y.

This figure stands about twenty inches tall and the lower half is full of plaster. Now, the first concern that I had was that the figure did not want to stand up properly. So, I took a piece of wood and put nail around the feet of the figure to hold it in the stance that I was looking for once the plaster dried. Then, I poured the plaster and waited.  This figure also gave me concern when I was trimming the vinyl. It is very thick and very hard to cut.  Finally, usually I would plaster a figure’s waist line. However, if I had done so on this figure, the plaster would simply not hold without eventually creating cracks or new gaps in the work. So, I simply used paint to blend the waist line into the overall look of the creature’s hair.
