U.S.S. COLIN POWELL – NCC-74705

Dauntless Class/Battle Cruiser

The USS Colin Powell is the battle cruiser of the Dauntless Class and part of the 51st Fleet. The 51st Fleet represents the best in Star Fleet, Borg, Klingon and Romulan technology. It is equipped with 14 XII phaser turrets/nubs, 4 ventral phaser strips, quantum multiphasic torpedoes, cloaking device, defensive photonic flash system (to blind enemy sensors), 2nd warp core, advanced computer, enhanced inertial dampeners, enhanced multiphasic shielding, high powered tractor beam and thick hull plating with ablative armor. The hull plating is so thick that the ship has been nicknamed the “Iron Clad”. The Powell has an armor plated Delta Flyer (Harlem) which is usually attached to the underside of the ship or on the attached weapons platform. The computer core and systems are provided by a special division of the Daystrom Institute that is attached to the 51st Fleet. Advanced computer systems were necessary to compute the variances of the quantum slipstream. A special program was installed that utilizes the quantum slipstream version of the “Picard Maneuver”. Using the program, the ship appears to be in 10 different locations at once. This represents a huge tactical advantage against enemy ships along phasers powered by the second warp core. The battle cruiser has a crew of 90 due to the weaponry, thick armor plating and second warp core.

The ship’s mission is offensive/defensive/diplomatic/escort and rescue in keeping with the multi-mission capabilities of the 51st Fleet. The crew includes graduates from the Colin Powell School which specializes in diplomacy and advanced offensive/defensive strategy. The Powell is under the command of Captain Ian Henry who is the son of Co-Admirals David and Sharron Henry (51st Fleet command). The motto of the 51st Fleet is “Any Time-Any Where”.

With such advanced technology, Star Fleet policy requires Dauntless Class starships to travel with a Defiant Class starship to prevent the ship from falling into enemy hands. The USS Benjamin Sisko is assigned to the Powell. The enhanced tractor beam is strong enough to tractor two Defiant Class ships or one Nebula Class ship into the quantum slip stream. The USS Colin Powell is the fastest advanced battle cruiser of the 51st Fleet and Star Fleet. On a diplomatic mission in the Delta quadrant, the USS Powell and the USS Sisko easily disabled 5 Kazon Battle cruisers that had surrounded them. The quantum drive can also be used as a weapon to destabilize an enemy ship’s warp core/nacelles with a directed quantum beam/wake. The USS Powell and the USS Sisko make a formidable and destructive battle group which also provides escort services for Admiral David Henry’s ship (USS Paul Robeson).

The model is an Alliance Dauntless model in 1/677 scale. Decals were Voyager scale from JT Graphics and custom decals. The model was painted in Gloss Gull Gray (Model Master-Testor). 1/677 scale Delta Flyer was purchased from Federation Models. The photos were downloaded from NASA and the ship was added by Photoshop.

WEAPON/SENSOR/DELTA FLYER PLATFORM MODULE – DAUNTLESS CLASS

In order to accommodate space for additional weaponry and a Delta Flyer Shuttle (Harlem), an especially designed weapon/sensor landing module was developed using federation and Borg technology.

A dish based, variable diameter phaser/cutting beam was designed as an offensive/defensive weapon. The weapon is powered by its own mini warp core and has similar destructive power of a Borg weapon used against the Federation at Wolf 359. In combination with the ship’s main weapons, The USS Powell can match the weaponry of most Federation/known alien ships. The module houses a sensor array and can hold one Delta Flyer class shuttle (by tractor beam). The entire assembly is coated with the latest energy conducting ablative armor designed by Admiral Sharron Henry. The weapon dish rotates 360 degrees and can be used as a detachable anti-matter mine.

The module was built from a SDHC memory card container, two diabetic needle caps and a Mennen Speed stick liner cap. I drilled a hole in the SDHC container and inserted a metal wire in order to allow the dish to rotate 360 degrees. Decals were from JT Graphics along with my own custom lettering.
