Chris Bailey’s USS Gerow

From 1998

I took an old small Galaxy class ship (you know the one from the old 3 piece set) and turned it into a New Orleans class Starship. USS GEROW NCC-70410. At the time, there wasn’t the new pictures of the Kyushu there is now. I am slightly off. (The secondary hull isn’t quite as long, as neither are the nacelles, there is no lower phaser cannon (or whatever those are) and the nacelle struts don’t join as close to the neck) Besides these errors, I tried to make it as close to the real thing as possible. Hey, lets just say this is a New Orleans Type II class ship…say there was design problems with the earlier ships and in the last twenty years, Starfleet has come up with a refitted design. Sound good? (Kinda like the two Constitution classes, Original and Movie ones) I love this design of ship. It’s one of my favs.

I hand painted all the decals and the escape pod hatches were all made by a makeshift stamp I used dipped in tan paint. I then hand painted the details on. The two phaser cannons on top were two wooden clothes pegs…due to the fact I couldn”t find any plastic ones. I rounded off the stern of the secondary hull with sandpaper (the plastic the is incredibly thick!) and rearranged the struts on the engines and then moved the nacelles closer to the neck. I did a cast of the Star Trek Generations model of the Enterprise D bridge module and painted this and placed it on the saucer of the Gerow to make it look authentic.
