Wonderfest 2019 Sneak Peak #3: Marta Kristen

The phone rang this morning. Caller ID says southern California. I think spam caller. But for some reason I answer. “Hi Steve, its Marta.”

That tooks a minute to sink in. Marta Kristen called. She’s really looking forward to seeing everyone at Wonderfest.

I first met Marta back in 2001 at Frightvision in Cleveland Ohio. Most all of the cast was at that show. One of the special events was a dinner with the Lost in Space cast. For some reason I was running late for the dinner, and when I arrived, the place was totally packed. I think I was the last guy to walk into the room. My friend Ron Gross was seated way across the room and he waved me over to their table. And Jonathan Harris was sitting there. Jonathan stood up, shook my hand, and sat me down in the chair next to him. Then Marta came over to the table, sat down across from me and bought me a beer. Life doesn’t get better than that. (thanks Ron!!)

After that, I took the opportunity to bring Marta to Wonderfest in 2004, joining us in the CultTVman Suite. And that was the year we did a figure of her to go with the Lost in Space Robot from Polar Lights. The figure was a little bit “over the top” thanks to Jimmy Flintstone, but it has continued to be popular.

So after Wonderfest, how about the IPMS Nationals? I thing she may have been the only TV star to ever make an appearance at that show! Marta joined us at the 2005 IPMS National convention in Atlanta.

I was fortunate to catch up with Marta again at Dragoncon in Atlanta in 2010. And then we brought her back to Wonderfest in 2015, as part of the 50th Anniversary of Lost in Space

And we bumped into Marta again out in Seattle at Galacticon in August 2015. The show was a bust, but we had a wondeful dinner with Marta and her husband Kevin.

Which brings us back to Wonderfest 2019! Marta will be appearing at the show, once again, sponsored by CultTVman’s Hobbyshop. We’ll have the all new Judy Robinson premium action figure from Executive Replicas, and a very special model kit announcement!
