Wonderfest 2018 – Sneak Peak #3 – The Ghastly Gallows

Ten years ago, CultTVman launched the Graveyard Scenes line of kits.   Hard to believe that it has been that long.   Graveyard Scenes was a collaboration between myself and Rick Evans.    I had originally came up with the idea years ago when there was talk about reviving Aurora.   I tossed out the idea for a series of monster kits, with interlocking bases, much like the Aurora Prehistoric Scenes.    Nothing ever came of it at that time.   A few years later I bounced the idea off Rick, and he came up with the first few bases for the Monsters of the Movies Dracula and Frankenstein, as well as the 70’s Aurora Vampirella.   We then went on to produce the original Vampire Bride figure and base to join up with them.

All the bases in the line were designed by Rick Evans.

Here’s a timeline of all the kits in the line:

2008

  • Dracula base – the first one that started it all.  For the 70s Aurora
  • Vampirella – for the 70s Aurora kit
  • Frankenstein – for the 70s Aurora kit or MOTM kit – the first base designed to work with two different figures
  • The Mutant Insect – for the 70s Aurora kit or the AMT Gigantics.

2009

  • Wolfman – for the MOTM kit
  • The Girl – first new figure in the series.  Adapted from the Prehistoric Aurora Cro Magnon woman.

2010

  • The Mad Doctor – intended for the 70’s doctor or the MOTM Jekyll or Hyde
  • The Vampire Bride – our second original kit and base. Sculpted by Joe Simon.
  • The Creature – for the MOTM figure.

2011

  • The Grave Digger – our third new figure.  Sculpted by Chris Elizardo
  • The Monster Maker – a duel figure.  Build as Dr. Frankenstein or Dr. Pretorius.  Another Chris Elizardo figure.

2012

  • The Creepy Coffin – first base that doesn’t use a figure.  Coffin by Brad Hair.
  • The Vampire Hunter – another completely original figure.  Sculpt by Chris Elizardo

2013

  • The Fly – New figure that everyone always wanted.  The monster that Aurora missed.  Sculpt by Chris Elizardo
  • The Ghostbusters – Figures and base.  Can be used for Kogar or Tracy.   Figures of Spenser and Kong b by Chris Elizardo

2018

  • Dr. Jekyll & Mr. Hyde – for the 70’s Aurora kit, or MOTM kits or the Monarch reissue.

There was a bit of a gap after 2013 and during that time we also produced several Sci-Fi Scenes bases, and the Creepy Castle sets.    Earlier this year we released the Jekyll and Hyde base, which was the 16th kit in the line.

For Wonderfest 2018, we are bringing out two more kits!   The first is the Ghastly Gallows, inspired by the 1931 Frankenstein.    This is #17 in the series.    How else do you assemble a monster?  You have to get a dead body somewhere.

And here is the updated map, showing the placement of the Ghastly Gallows.

And we have another base to tell you about….
