Things are icy in Georgia
For all of you that are wondering, yes, things are really bad here in the Atlanta area. They’ve just announced schools will be closed for the fourth day in a row. The roads are still iced over in most places and the temperatures are not going to warm up until Friday. This is the first time in my 25 years in Atlanta that I missed work due to the weather.
I did manage to get to work today. Fortunately, I have pretty good access to the main roadways which are partially cleared. I did take a detour to see if we could get to the Post Office. Big mistake! The roads were all iced up and virtually undriveable. People were stuck in the road, spinning on the ice, and everyone else was afraid to drive around them. It ended up taking me two hours to get to work! The freeways are normally 6 lanes in each direction, but today only two lanes were clear and occasionally a third lane. The exit ramps iced and dangerous. But I can say that I did not see any accidents… just some crazy, stupid drivers — accidents waiting to happen.
Needless to say, we are not able to get to the Post Office at all to do any shipping. Given that temperatures are not getting above freezing today, it is doubtful that we’ll be able to ship on Thursday either. But we are counting on getting almost everything out the door on Friday.
Not only does this mean that we can’t ship out, but no one can deliver to us either. We have quite a few shipments on the way to us, including the War of the Worlds Alien from Pegasus.
At least we have not lost power and we still have internet access. The world is at our fingertips.
Steve
