Sylvain Rivest’s T-Rex
This was originally featured in On The Bench
I have just finished the Pegasus T-Rex, what a great model, beautiful sculpture. Since this is an impressive model I had to go all out on the display.
I used the techniques that I developed over the years, to bring the detail out of both dinosaurs. Once the base coats are on, I use the time honored “drybrushing” technique. I simply use the base color and gradually work in titanium white oil paint; the palor the colors get the gentler the strokes, brushing the higher points of the figurine.
Sculptamold groundwork is painted with enamels (mostly Humbrol) covered with small pebbles and sand, and again drybrushing the upper portions of the landscape for that dusty look. The gully and puddle were glossed over with varnish. Trees and ferns were purchased separately and refinished. The trees and hollow log the were made by Peter Vassler and were used as is. The large ferns are from Peter as well, but those i retouched the colors a bit.
I had great pleasure doing this one , this is my first dinosaur diorama. I can’t wait to receive the Spinosaurus from Pegasus and I’m already doing my research on the subject.
