Steven Vasko’s Space Station V

This is Fantastic Plastic Models “Space Station V” offering, as seen in “2001:A Space Odyssey”. The station itself is pretty much built “out of the box” with the addition of tiny pieces of “Scotchlite” material affixed into the window recesses of the completed first ring, giving a “lighted” effect when the light hits it. The kit came with three sizes of Orion Clippers, the idea being by choosing a specific size shuttle you could adjust the perceived scale of the station. I scratch-built an exhaust plume, chose the largest Clipper, and posed it to duplicate the classic Robert McCall poster. The base, featuring the Earth, Moon, and Outer Space is designed to emulate the look of the original film and is custom-painted in airbrush by myself.
