Steve Iverson’s Batman
Batman is the Monogram ‘Super Powers’ reissue with the remolded head. The paint scheme is influenced by Frank Miller’s Dark Knight.
Having built the kit previously, I knew it was very important to reinforce the tree branch. This is the only Batman kit where the branch doesn’t fall off the tree and cause Batman to plummet to his death!
I also created a smooth area on Batman’s chest so the decal for the emblem would lie smooth. When the kit was retooled in the 70’s for the Comic Scenes reissue, the molded emblem was removed, and the chest area slightly re-sculpted. The result was that the decal would not stick, or lay smooth. The Superman reissue suffered from the same problem.
I also slightly modified the base to make it smaller and added a large number of additional tree roots molded from sprue and putty.
The paint detailed were the result if a lot of masking, using flat and gloss blacks. For the costume and muscle contours I used a lot of dry brush work. This was in the days before I had an air brush.
