SM Clark’s R2-D2

Nothing special in terms of kit bashing. I *did* cement the legs into the position seen. I figured it was a static model, not a toy, so why should the legs “function”. Also, I didn’t use the decals provided. I simply painted anything that required color.

The weathering was done with “dirty” washes, after looking at several photos to be sure not to under or over do it. I think getting the dome right was the most critical. To get that grungy look without completely obliterating the chrome sheen took  a little experimenting with the dirty thinner. Cleaning off some of the applied “dirt” with a brush slightly dampened in fresh thinner helped create a realistic effect.

A minor amount of dry brushing helped too. Dirt AND dust. Needless to say, he’s dirtier around his lower half than around the upper!   All the paint was all Testors Model Masters. No acrylics!
