Shane Johnson’s Refit Enterprise

Here are a few pics of the Enterprise I scratch-built back in 1982. This project was built to be displayed at the ‘Ultimate Fantasy’ Star Trek show in Houston in the summer of 1982. It was completed in six weeks. The model is now in a private collection.

The model was four and a half feet long, with vacuformed outer hull parts and a plywood inner framework. I had the parts custom vac-formed from blueprints I drew. It was lit with grain of wheat bulbs, lite-brite pegs, and a flashlight reflector behind the deflector dish. The model included interiors for the officer’s lounge and botanical gardens. Chartpak lettering and painted symbols were used for the hull markings.

The model also had its own museum display case.
