Sealab update – Doll & Hobby GA

Sealab built up model

We get a lot of requests for updates on the Sealab. Doll & Hobby GA (my company) announced this in mid 2022. Of course, nothing ever goes as smoothly as we want. Other projects took longer, like the Guillotine and Chariot kits, which rippled down to delay other projects.

Sealab 3D image

3d file work began in spring of 2023 and tool most of the remaining year. Here are a few images of the 3D files we are working with. We were satisfied with 90% of the work, but the devil is in the details. We spent a lot of time going back and forth to get all of the parts to the point where we felt customers would be satisfied with the product. Much of the appeal of this kit is that many parts were used in the production of the Star Wars miniatures by Industrial Light and Magic back in 1975 and 1976. We wanted this reissue to remain faithful to the original kit with minimal compromises and changes. The 3d files were approved in early 2024.

As of March 2024, we are about to start the tooling process. We expect to have test shots in mid 2024. Depending on how much refinement is needed, we hope this to be available in fall 2024, We are also working on packaging and instructions, which should be similar to the original.

As always, things take longer than we anticipate. The goal is to deliver a quality product that will provide all modelers with kit that meets there needs. That includes Aurora builders, Star Was fans, studio scale recreators, and those that are interested for the naval history. So we thank you for you patience and understanding!

Please preorder the kit in the CultTVman Hobbyshop, or at your favorite hobbyshop.
