Scott Copeland’s Spinner Girl
This is a cool 1/9 scale Japanese resin kit I picked up at WF a few years ago called “Spinner Girl”. I liked the sculpt and concept, so it was pretty much a no brainer, nice to see a “Blade Runner” themed kit not of the usual subject matter.
It was nicely cast with a very good decal sheet, assembly was easy and required little putty, fit was very good. I didn’t glue her hat, hands, and boots at first, due to the pose & small scale it was easier to paint them unattached. Her police uniform was airbrushed with Vallejo acrylics, skin tones were done with Com-art and Badger FF acrylics. Some careful masking was needed for the stripes and badges, Silly Putty came in handy for them and her nails. I made her uniform a lot shinier with gloss than I usually do on figure kits to give it a futuristic vinyl look and emphasize the blues, I was really happy with the result. Uniform was sealed with clear gloss acrylic, skin was sealed with Dullcoat, and the boots with clear acrylic semi-gloss. I brushed some Future on the hat bill to give it a patent leather shine. Her blaster and badges were painted with Vallejo Metallics and a detail brush, last paint step was to paint her eyes light grey and seal them with Future in prep for the eye decals.
The kit decals were very well done and went on smoothly, MicrolSol made them lay smooth and tight into the folds of her uniform and eyes. Last step was to assemble the various painted components with CA.
The kit didn’t have a base, and it took awhile to find a good one that looked good and was heavy enough to counter the heavy white resin the kit was made from. I stumbled upon this futuristic base by Jimi Glancy made for spaceship kits, it fit like a glove. It was painted with Vallejo Metallics and lightly weathered with buffable metallic waxes. Normally I’d weather & detail the hell out of a base for anything Blade Runner-ish, but in this case I thought keeping it simple showed off the figure better.
Pretty happy with how it came out, it displays nicely with my Blade Runner spinner and is a little off the beaten path subject-wise. I’d definitely recommend it for Blade Runner & figure kit fans!
