Round 2 News #2: Star Wars Models!

Round 2 will be producing Star Wars models!

Rumors that Round 2 had a Star Wars license have been floating around recently. This was confirmed this week. A press release about the sale of the company indicated that Round 2 now has a Star Wars license. This was further confirmed in a video released today on the Round 2 YouTube channel

Round 2 relased a series of videos to promote their 2021 product line as a part of a virtual Toy Fair. Jamie Hood discusses the Star Wars license about 5 and a half minutes into this vide. He indicates that they will be reissuing vintage Star Wars kits, as well as new kits. The video states that they can produce products from all the Star Wars universe.

It is no secret that Round 2 has owned the AMT and MPC molds and tooling for the Star Wars kits. They have previously indicated that they wanted to produce Star Wars kits but had not been able to secure licensing. Revell had previously controled licensing of Star Wars model kits in the US and Europe. Bandai started producing Star Wars models in the last 10 years and have been distributing their kits in the US for the last 2 years.

Revell’s recent bankruptcy changed the landscape of the Star Wars license in the last few years. It is unknown how Round 2’s license will affect future production from Bandai or Revell. We’ll share more information as it becomes available.

Aquiring the Star Wars license is an indication that Round 2 is growing their business. It reflects the recent sale of the company to a private equity company and the focus on expansion and growth.

The great thing is that we can look forward to more new and vintage product from Round 2!
