Ron Gross’s Robot

Ron Gross’s Robot was featured in the January 1993 issue of Scale Modeler magazine, and was also pictured in a recent issue of Fine Scale Modeler. It is built from a Masudaya robot, and appropriately accurized.

The antennas were replaced with scratchbuilt parts, and the neck was lengthened a little. The treads were reworked so as not to appear oversize in relation to the rest of the model. The claws were also scratchbuilt.

Ron also installed a lighting circuit and 42 LEDs, scattered throughout the head and chest area. To accommodate the electronics, the chest area had to completely scratchbuilt. Ron even managed to salvage the voice box that came with the model and install that in the lower section.

One final highlight is the addition of Bill Mumy’s autograph on the underside.
