Neta Kasara’s Jason and the Argonauts Skeleton

This is a 1/6th scale model of one of the skeletons from the famous fight sequence at the end of Harryhausen’s “Jason and the Argonauts”. He has been heavily kitbashed from the old Revell skeleton kit, with major work being done to reshape and resculpt parts of the skull, the rib cage, the hands and the feet.

The shield is scratchbuilt from .040 inch thick styrene that was thermo-formed to the proper shape. Styrene strips were bonded to the shield to represent rib details. The shield graphics were drafted onto the styrene in pencil using photo reference from the film. The gold and white areas were masked and airbrushed. The black line work was achieved with drafting pens and thin brushes. Incidental gold line work was hand brushed.

The sword is shaped from .080 inch thick styrene and painted silver. The handle was shaped from the same material and the handle shaft was wrapped with tissue, soaked with super glue, then painted brown. The remainder of the handle was painted grey. I used photo reference as much as possible throughout, but the sword seems to be a bit too wide and I plan on making it more narrow.

The skeleton was airbrushed white overall and weathered with washes and chalk. I recently acquired another one of the old Revell kits and I hope to make another skeleton from the same “Jason” sequence, which should make for a more interesting display.
