Kit updates from Round 2 – Star Wars, UFO, Black Hole, and more
Round 2 was back at Wonderfest this past weekend in Louisville KY. They had some new announcements, along with updates on projects in the works since last year. Many of the projects announced in 2023 were put on hold and they are just now moving forward. This includes several Star Wars kits, the UFO models and new Star Trek ships.

Reissues of the vintage Black Hole kits was the big new announcement. This will include the Cygnus spaceship, and the two robots. These are currently in preliminary stages and they are looking to see if they can make the ship more accurate and mold it in clear for lighting opportunities. Nothing has been finalized yet and no release date has been announced so it could be 2025.

These kits were only produced back in 1979/1980 when the movie came out. While the film was not particularly successful, there has been a lot of interest in the model kits over the years. Round 2 has expanded their licensing with Disney beyond Star Wars, which opens the possibilities of new kits from various Disney and Fox films. At this time nothing else has been announced.

The new Star Wars projects were announced back in 2023, but they now slip to 2025. The Landspeeder will be 1:12 scale, while the much anticipated TIE Bomber will be 1:72 scale. We will begin taking preorders soon, although pricing and release dates are not yet known.

Round 2 would also like to produce a 1:32 scale X-Wing, but this would likely be timed with the 50th Anniversary of Star Wars in 2027.
The new kits from Gerry Anderson’s UFO series were also announced in 2023. These will now appear in 2025. The first kit will be a 1:35 scale Shado Mobile, probably followed by the Interceptor. We’ll post further details when we have them. We will start preorders soon in the CultTVman Hobbyshop.

Round 2 also announced they will be reissuing the 1:100 Saturn V and 1:72 scale Space Shuttle, originally produced by 4D Vision. These will now be branded as AMT models. These kits are “cutaway” models that give you a view of the interior of the spacecraft.
