Karl Machtanz’ Mothman

Loving Urban Legends I decided to build the Mothman version from Alternative Images, this 15″ tall solid resin model approximately 1:7 scale is a great kit by itself but I wanted to add details like wittiness’s described him by adding glowing red eyes and sharp teeth. I opened his mouth up using a Dremel motor tool and a milling bit then building gums and making teeth using Apoxie Sculpt modeling putty there’s even a forked tongue behind the teeth, I also opened the eyes as these were solid resin and drilled through the head as to run wires down the back to the attachment point to the solid resin base.

I installed two red LED’s and secured them behind two glass lenses and used Apoxie Sculpt to hold them in place I then ran wiring down a trench in the back of the mothman and into the base after I drilled and milled out a battery box inside the base along with an on / off switch, using Liquttex Acrylic paint I airbrushed the Mothman a dark grey with dry brushed brown for the body and brown for the wings.

The base represents the Silver Bridge so a heavily rusted color was sprayed using Liquitex orange and dry brushed with silver and rust colors, I hope I captured in model form what witnesses said they saw in the 1960’s.
