Jay Barnes’ Buck Rogers Ships
Here are some pictures of my Buck Rogers Starfighter and Marauder models. The kits were purchased I believe for $3.95 each back in 1979, which is also the year that I built them.
They were left the overall color they were molded in, (off white for the Starfighter, coral orange for the Marauder). Then some paneling and weathering was added, and the kits were decaled.
The Starfighter was paneled with Pactra Aircraft Gray, and it’s engines were painted a mixture of flat black and silver to make a dirty metallic gray mixture. Overall weathering was done with thinned flat black paint streaked on with a brush then smeared with a tissue.
Some of the Marauder’s panels were painted deep red with gray, and others a mixture of deep red and hot pink. The engine was painted deep red with black and gray detailing. The weathering was done with a black pastel chalk and then the model was oversprayed with Testor’s Dullcote.
They still look pretty good for being built 19 years ago, and are holding up amazingly well. The quality of the pics is so-so, but I hope you enjoy them anyway. I took three of each ship using a digital camera and then Photoshopped out the background.
