iHobbyExpo 2013 final wrap up

I’m finally getting around to posting this final wrap up from iHobbyExpo.    This is the major trade show for the hobby industry with a focus on plastic models, radio control cars and aircraft, model trains, diecasts,  and much more.   For 2013, the show returned to Chicago after a change of venue in 2012.   Last year the show was held in Cleveland and was not considered to be very successful.   From my observations, attendance appeared to be better this year than in 2012.   The show relocated to Schamuburg Convention Center, which is much smaller than the Rosemont location used up to 2011.   Schaumberg seemed to be just about the right size for the show and the facilities were much newer and very nice.

A number of major hobby companies did not attend again this year.   Great Planes (which owns Revell) is perhaps the largest hobby distributor in the country and they did not attend the show.    Other notable companies with genre modeling products that were missing include Dragon USA, Atlantis Toy and Hobbies, and Monarch.   Lindberg/Hawk is now owned by Round 2, so those products were on display at the Round 2 booth.

I’ve already posted a ton of photos from the show, so rather than duplicating everything, I’m just including links.

Moebius Models

The Pod and Chariot was originally going to be a mixed media kit with resin, plastic and photoetch.   It will now be an all plastic kit that might include photoetch.   Final details are being worked out.   Plenty of other products are in the works.
