Gil Brumana’s Ultra Probe

The Ultra Probe from the Space: 1999 Year 1 episode ” Dragon’s Domain ” is one of the most recognized models from the classic series. It was originally built in three scales. My model is a replica of the smallest of the three.

At just over 2 feet long, it was constructed from Plastruct tubing and dome shapes as the original was. The Command Module was made from the front half of an Amt/ERTL Eagle kit with the back half sculpted from automotive bondo.

The main engine bells were made from plastic easter egg halves. Detailing was taken from many diferent kits laying in my discard pile. The miniature too the better part of 2 months to make, and was finished at 4:00 in the morning on Sept. 13th 1999, just in time for display at the Space: 1999 Breakaway Convention held in Los Angeles that weekend. ( And boy was I tired )
