Gary Stephenson’s C-57D
I just wanted to share what I have done so far with the new Polar Lights Forbidden Planet C57D. I am sending 3 or 4 shots of the interior plus one of the exterior SO FAR.
I have plans to refinish the exterior because the paint took on the texture of the putty I used to fill the seams. I agree with the modeller that said “the interior was fun but the hull was a nightmare”. The hull is definitely the most under-designed over-constrained model challenge know to mankind. It is a big, floppy, weak, mess. I am planning on beefing it up with some additional structure and I am planning three more touches for the exterior:
1) refinish to give it a smoother “metallic” look
2) add “stainless” metal colored paint around the rim, about 1″ wide.
3) use spray on silver acrylic + futura floor wax on the transparent parts to make them semi-transparent
On the interior, aside from touch up, I am effectively done. The interior detail is very nice. I went with Bob Perovich’s color scheme all the way and have no regrets. the photos I included do not have the elevator poles installed – I found them distracting during the photo shoot. Also missing was the power station. I did not find the suggested location satisfactory and would like to hear the opinions of others on where to place it. Until then it stays out.
Good luck to all who attempt this model. It is by far the most challenging and most rewarding model I have yet attempted, and its not over yet.
