Frank DeCandia’s Gort

Lunar Models Gort is of 1951’s sci-fi movie fame, ‘The Day the Earth Stood Still’. This all resin model only looks simple. Large hardened stems were removed from the arms, and legs. Mold lines had to be removed from the hands, arms, head, body, & inside legs. Sanded to a smooth finish. Several hours work and a pile of dust to clean up.

Glued, plastered seams, sanded, primed, and ready to go.

Preliminary paint stage. Used spray paint. I ran out and had to wait til morning to buy more. Spray paint can be tricky. Only use light coats. Had some problems with discoloration, and heavy coating. Got it all right in the end.

Stands at a whopping 11-3/4″ tall each. Seen here “standing still”. Took this opportunity to picture Gort with his “visor down” and “visor up”. Both have a visible black visor now.

Here Gort’s visor caught glare from the camera flash. Looks like he’s charging up his visor to blast things to bits. Just like the movie!

This bust photo looks good enough to be an actual shot of him standing outside his ship. His original color is aluminum-like. I did NOT use the color from my “Lost in Space” B9 Robot.

The very outer ear ring is painted chrome. It doesn’t belong there, but it’s hardly noticeable, and adds to his charm.
