Don Matthys’ Enterprise B/Excelsior Project
This Work In Progress Journal will involve building and lighting the AMT kits of the USS Excelsior and the USS Enterprise NCC-1701-B. Though essentially the same class ship, the Enterprise-B had additional fittings added to the Excelsior studio model. Both models are being built at the same time. As far as the Excelsior, it will be the version as seen in Star Trek VI (or as close as I can), not the NX-2000 type seen in Star Trek III. It will rely a lot on the photos at Pete Savin’s site.
In this journal I will take you through the steps of:
- Preparing the models for lighting
- Addition of new resin detail parts in both opaque and clear resins
- LEDs and use of LightSheet
- Operating Electronics
- Model Assembly
- Painting and Markings
The project is divided into multiple parts:
- Enterprise B/Excelsior Project part 1 – drilling ports; preparing the secondary hull.
- Enterprise B/Excelsior Project part 2 – primary hull, installing resin lighting parts
- Enterprise B/Excelsior Project part 3 – installation of the sensor dish; secondary hull
- Enterprise B/Excelsior Project part 4 – Light Sheet driver; detailing the shuttle bay
- Enterprise B/Excelsior Project part 5 – warp engine wiring
- Enterprise B/Excelsior Project part 6 – Primary Hull lighting
- Enterprise B/Excelsior Project part 7 – Details and lighting test
- Enterprise B/Excelsior Project part 8 – aztec paneling
- Enterprise B/Excelsior Project part 9 – decals
- Enterprise B/Excelsior Project part 10 – final assembly
- Enterprise B/Excelsior Project part 11 – completed model
