Darrin Buchholtz’ Batmobiles

The first is the Batmobile from the 1989 movie — This kit I had my first go at removing the chrome off of the plated parts. I left the parts on the tree and let them soak in Draino overnight. I was then able to paint the parts with a steel paint and apply a black wash. The tires were sanded to help the tread stand out, and the windshield was “tinted” on the inside with a light coat of black gloss paint.

The second is the Revell Batmobile from 1995, Batman Forever. This time I left the chrome on the plated parts and decided to paint over them for the blue glow affect. I painted a couple coats of transparent Testors fluorescent blue over the parts, then used a slight purple tinted dark blue to put a wash over them. Finally I dry brushed white to highlight and finish the glow look. I wish I would have not painted the body gloss black, I think the blue would have looked better with the finish of the plastic black body.
