Carl Campagna’s Stingray

This is a profile view of Troy Tempest’s atomic submarine Stingray. Though I purchased this kit from Comet Miniatures it was manufactured by Doyoshia in Japan. There were two versions, this is the “cheaper” one because it does not contain the lights or sounds. The kit itself was molded very well, however it was not too accurate. The “landing” pontoons are too large I didn’t do anything with them on this kit. Also the windows were inaccurate, the top of the periscope, and the dive planes were at the wrong angle. These I corrected, though the windows did not come out as good as I would have liked. Also there is supposed to be a missile under each dive plane that was missing and I added. Overall the kit is of good quality and looks good. If you do want to create an accurate version of the sub, I would recommend that you check with Comet Miniatures for Stingray manufactured by Wave. The Wave model is larger than the Doyoshia kit and the Wave version is molded in vinyl. I wasn’t ready for vinyl, I was still getting used to resin!
