Bobby Hunter’s Galaxy Class USS Venture

This is the AMT / Ertl Enterprise-D kit. This particular kit sat on my shelf for quite some time before I decided to dive head first in to it. I’m usually working on more than one kit at a time but I knew that I would have to devote all of my modeling hours on this one kit until it was completed.

The basic construction was straightforward. For an AMT kit I did not find too many major problems. The painting was a different story. I felt that to do the Aztec pattern properly it needed to be airbrushed and to airbrush I needed to create a template for the main hull. I did this by copying the pattern right off of the hull. I did this in sections and then cut the pattern out of Frisket paper. I painted the base color using a Poly scale gray and then placed and painted each Aztec template using a slightly darker gray. The secondary hull was painted in the darker gray and the pattern was completely masked off by hand.

I finshed the model with the JTGraphics decals for the U.S.S Venture. Placing the individual lifeboats was quite tedious but well worth it. With the diminished time to work on this kit due work and family duties this kit took me a good seven months to complete.
