Bob Kimball’s Batcave

Bob Kimball spent four years, off and on, working on this model — sometimes not touching it for eight or nine months at a time. He says, Then I’d get inspired and work on it maniacally for a month or so.” He used his VCR for reference material, noting, “I did stare at the tv quite a lot. I was watching the reruns I had on tape as well as taping shows that may have more batcave scenes. It got silly after a while — it became a challenge to see just how accurate (anal) I could be.

To illuminate the model, Bob used one main light source in the “ceiling” hidden behind the rock facade in front. There are separate light sources in the batpole shaft and the atomic pile which were made with dollhouse wiring and lights. The transformer is hidden behind the left rear wall.

By the way, not visible in the posted shot are the brass batpoles and the “compressed steam batpole lift” switches on the wall of the shaft.
