April Welles USS Ragnarok
This is the USS Ragnarok that I built for a client. It is all OOB (Out Of Box for newbies (hey, I was one once ;)) except for aftermarket decals from JTGraphics.
It’s pretty straightforward except for the fact that the kit sucks. The parts don’t fit properly and the gaps are pretty large. This kit requires a lot of puttying before you can even bring out the primer.
I used my usual Model Master Acrylics. I like them for ease of cleanup and use. I blew them through my Testors Aztek a/b and the finish is pretty good. The base color is MM Acrylic Camouflage Gray. The darkest is MM Intermediate Blue. For the “Warp glow” and Deflector system, I used Testors Clear Blue over Testors Flat White. Spraying more around the edges to give the similar effect seen on the show.
Masking was a pain. So many different color panels in some strange shapes. Not impossible, just a major pain. And after dealing with the PITA build, masking was not a fun project.
Because this was not the Defiant, I couldn’t use the kit supplied base so I made one using a oval one from Michael’s Craft Store and a photograph of a nebula. Then I attached the stock stand to the base.
