Scott Griffith's Starbug

Having spent many a night, glued to a large square box that produces colour images right before your eyes, waiting to see a vindaloo eating human, an android who thinks he`s human and a hologram who thinks he`s Ace. (or is he?) 3 million years in the future., some where lost in space, on a ship called Red Dwarf. It was then that I decided that it was time to put my modeling experience to some use in recreating some (if not all) of the models featured throughout the series.

The obvious one to start with was the Starbug.

Starting point was once again watching and rewatching the videos and taking snap shots  on the computer of all angles and sides that I could get, having done that came the question "where do I get 3 orbs of the same size to match the original". EMA Model Supplies do half spheres that  you make molds off, but they were way out of my price range.

Then it came to me!!  use 3 footballs, ( soccer balls ) which is what I did, covered them in fibreglass, sanded them down, ( image 1 )  added bit of this here and pieces of that there and four months later Starbug. (image 2 ) One thing I did forget to do was to photograph the model as I was building it.
