Scott Griffith's Blue Midget

After the Starbug came the Blue Midget not a popular craft but a good one to build as the original was destroyed to make the shuttle (thats another one to make). Once again watching and re-watching the videos over and over again. This time I came across a little problem, that was that the Blue Midget only appeared in about two episodes and for only a short time so images were hard to capture.

Just at the same time Martin Tucker from the BBC Visual Effects Dept was in Purple Haze in Plymouth promoting a book on the end of Dr Who, so a little trip to Purple Haze with the finished Starbug was called for. His face was a picture when I drop the Starbug on the table in front of him, but it did the trick. He promised to send me some pictures of the Blue Midget.

Three months passed and still no pictures so I rang the Visual Effects Dept and spoke to him and he once again promised to send the pictures, they arrived all two of them and a slide but all of the same side and angle.  Back to the videos I went and worked mainly from them.

The main body was made out of two plastic oil containers fibreglassed over,(image 3) all the exhaust were made of 15mm copper plumbing pipe, the only thing I had to buy was the front wheel and the rear tracks both of which came from tank kits. (image 4,5 )
