Steven Vasko’s Refit Enterprise
This project, the LED-lit USS Enterprise Refit, took about four months to complete, and uses the “raytheon”-style of lighting for this model. This method takes advantage of two features of the kit, A) that the kit is molded in white plastic, and B) that this plastic, untreated for light-proofing purposes, will allow for some light transmission when lit from below. By using this method, the floodlights and spotlights seen on the Enterprise in the first film in the Star Trek franchise, particularly those seen in the “Dry-dock” sequences, can be effectively “faked”. This model also incorporates the ability to switch from “Impulse Drive” lighting to “Warp Drive” lighting with the flip of a toggle switch.
